Modi 3.0: Full List Of Ministers Who Took Oath, Totaling 72

Narendra Modi, along with 72 ministers, took the oath for a third consecutive term as Prime Minister on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. At 73, Modi has now matched Jawaharlal Nehru, who also served three straight terms as India's first Prime Minister.

While PM Modi has secured another five years in power, this is the first time he will be sharing power, as the BJP lost its outright majority in the Lok Sabha after a fiercely contested election.

In line with 'coalition dharma', the new Council of Ministers will include 72 members, with 11 ministers from NDA partners. The Modi 3.0 team will consist of 30 Cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State. The portfolios will be announced later. Notably, there are 33 first-timers in the new Cabinet.

The Council of Ministers will broadly represent various social groups, including 27 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), ten from Scheduled Castes (SC), five from Scheduled Tribes (ST), and five from minority communities. A record 18 senior Ministers will lead major ministries. However, a few notable names are missing from the new Cabinet.

Along with the Prime Minister, the new Cabinet includes 30 Cabinet Ministers, five Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State.

• Rajnath Singh, former Defence Minister, was sworn in.
• Amit Shah, former Home Minister, was included in the new government.
• Nitin Gadkari, former Minister of Road Transport, is part of the new NDA government.
• JP Nadda, BJP's national chief, joined Narendra Modi's Cabinet.
• Shivraj Singh Chouhan, ex-Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, has been given a Cabinet position.
• Nirmala Sitharaman, former Finance Minister, is part of the new administration.
• Dr. S. Jaishankar continues as the External Affairs Minister.
• Manohar Lal Khattar, former Haryana Chief Minister, took oath as a Cabinet Minister.
• HD Kumaraswamy, JD(S) chief, was sworn in as a Union Minister.
• Piyush Goyal, who won his first Lok Sabha term, was sworn in as a Union Minister.
• Dharmendra Pradhan, former Union Minister, took oath again.
• Jitan Ram Manjhi, founder of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), is now a Union Cabinet Minister.
• Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh, a leader from JD(U), took oath as a Union Cabinet Minister.
• Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP leader from Assam, was sworn in as a Union Minister.
• Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Telugu Desam Party leader, joined the NDA government.

• Rao Inderjit Singh, a six-term MP, took oath as Union Minister of State (Independent Charge).
• Jitendra Singh, the Udhampur MP, was sworn in as MoS (Independent Charge).
• Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Bikaner MP, took oath as MoS (Independent Charge).
• Prataprao Jadhav, a Shiv Sena leader from the Eknath Shinde faction, was included in Modi 3.0.
• Jayant Chaudhary, whose party RLD allied with the NDA before the polls, was given MoS (Independent Charge).

Narendra Modi returned as the Prime Minister as the NDA won 293 of the 543 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The BJP, however, fell short of the majority mark in the Lok Sabha on its own, winning 240 seats. The magic number in the Lok Sabha is 272.
