Mumbai High-Rise Fire: Blaze Engulfs 10th Floor, Many Feared Trapped

According to a civic official, a major fire erupted around midnight in a high-rise tower in south Mumbai’s Byculla area, leaving several people feared stranded. Preliminary information indicates the blaze started in a flat on the 10th floor of the Monte South building’s A wing in the Khatao Mill Compound, Byculla (W), at approximately 11:42 pm. While no injuries have been reported so far, the exact number of stranded individuals remains unknown.

The fire is confined to a flat on the 10th floor, but smoke has filled the entire floor, leaving some people stranded on the building’s upper floors, the official reported. At least eight fire tenders and other fire brigade vehicles are on the scene. Rescue operations are underway for those stranded. The Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, 108 Ambulance, BEST’s power wing, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s local ward staff quickly mobilized at the spot. While the cause of the fire is not yet known, a short circuit is suspected. The fire was brought under control at 2:45 am, with no casualties reported.

Another incident occurred when a fire broke out in the Tardeo area of Mumbai on the night of May 30, 2024. Mumbai fire officials confirmed no casualties. They stated, “Upon receiving information about the fire, 5 fire brigade vehicles promptly arrived at the scene and began firefighting operations. No casualties have been reported thus far.
