The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is an intense competition, but this year’s outcome has left many scratching their heads. For the first time in NEET’s history, a staggering 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720, securing the coveted All India Rank (AIR) 1. However, this unbelievable feat has sparked serious questions about the exam’s integrity.

Among the top performers, eight candidates allegedly appeared for the exam at the same center. Concerns have been raised about whether the NEET paper was easier than secondary exams, given the large number of students who aced it. How did 67 aspirants have secured perfect 720? Was the marking scheme too lenient?

NEET’s marking scheme is like 4 or minus 1 for correct and incorrect answers, respectively. However, this year’s results have led to speculation. How could some students achieve 718 or 719 marks? Such incidents raise debate in the education sector. The National Testing Agency (NTA) clarified that grace marks were awarded in cases where students faced time constraints during the exam. Still, this unprecedented move has left many baffled.

While NTA addressed the grace marks issue, the lack of transparency regarding which centers received this benefit remains a concern. Moreover, sudden deviations from established norms raise doubts. Could this approach be applied to any competitive exam? Is there a justifiable reason for this departure from the usual scoring pattern?

As NEET aspirants celebrate their remarkable achievements, the questions surrounding the exam’s integrity persist. While the NTA’s clarification sheds some light, a comprehensive explanation is warranted.
