The Supreme Court's decision to postpone the ruling on the interim bail plea of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal came as a setback to the Aam Aadmi Party. The court mentioned that it would aim to conclude the matter the following day or schedule it for the next week. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with alleged money laundering related to a liquor policy scandal.

Special Judge for CBI and ED, Kaveri Baweja, extended Kejriwal’s custody until May 20 after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader appeared before the court via video-conference as his earlier custody expired.

The ruling came at the same time as the Supreme Court's session concerning Arvind Kejriwal's contest against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate regarding the liquor policy case. Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, on a two-judge bench, had hinted that they might explore the possibility of granting interim bail to Kejriwal.

In the hearing, the Supreme Court informed Kejriwal's legal representatives that if interim bail were to be granted to the chief minister, it would likely be on the condition that he abstains from performing his official duties to avoid potential conflicts.

The case revolves around accusations of corruption and money laundering in the development and implementation of the Delhi government's excise policy for the fiscal year 2021-22, which has since been revoked.
