In the wake of the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata, Chandan Rout, a software professional from Berhampur in Odisha, has developed an app to enhance and give a new dimension to workplace security. The app, named 'Prakrika' is designed to stop rape by sending quick alerts to surrounding individuals as well as the victim's family, friends, and relatives.

About The App

According to reports, Rout said that the app can work both online and offline by the use of integration beacons and will be available when connectivity is low. The security app would require a maintenance of Rs 12 per month per employee.

The Odisha Bytes report revealed that Rout was disturbed by the rising concerns about women's safety in the workplace, following the Kolkata rape and murder incident. He began to develop this app in about 20 days of work.

Important Features

The app has an emergency response system as an important feature. Each employee will be issued an identity card with an emergency button incorporated into it. Upon pressing the button, an alert will be sent across three numbers the employee would choose to set up - One of the Administrative staff and two other numbers.

Another significant feature is that it is designed to suit schools. The app can even send alerts to inform parents about their child's entry and exit.

Besides this, it can detect high-risk areas in a workplace and send alerts to the administration that an employee is incapacitated or unconscious.
