Operation Bhediya: Fifth Man-Eater Wolf Captured In UP's Bahraich, Search On For The Last One - Watch Video
The forest department has, in continuation of the operation to manage a wolf-related issue, caught its fifth wolf in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. It has been part of 'Operation Bhediya' that aims at dealing with a pack of wolves terrorizing the local population.
Recent Wolf Attacks In Bahraich
A series of wolf attacks killed people in Bahraich over the last few months. Ten people, including nine children, were killed by wolves in the Mahsi Tehsil area during the last few months. These deaths happened within a period of 47 days from July 17 to September 2. Besides killing many residents, 36 people were injured in the wolf attacks.
Latest Capture And Current Situation
The capture of the fifth wolf in a pack of six by the forest department on Tuesday was its latest success, near the Ghaghara River. "Earlier, the Ghaghara River area had served as a capture site for other wolves earlier. Now, only one wolf remains in the wild." The capture was done to save the local populace and to bring the situation into control as part of a larger strategy.
Gov't Response And Cautionary Measures
The government of Uttar Pradesh has announced the wolf attacks as a 'wildlife disaster'. The Government has deployed heavy police forces, including the Provincial Armed Constabulary, and forest teams to patrol the affected areas for situational control.
The forest department has established a command center at the divisional level to monitor the situation round the clock. The department is conducting awareness programs and increasing night patrolling. Firecrackers are used at the outskirts of sensitive villages to ward off the wolves from entering residential areas.
Community Impact And Safety Measures
Whereas the Panchayat Bhawan and primary schools have been converted into night shelters for the safety of the residents, affected villages have been divided into three sectors, each having a different team assigned to manage things and respond better.
With such efforts, the wolf attacks continue. The fresh attack that was reported took place on September 3 in Girdharpur, where a five-year-old girl received serious injuries. This incident surfaced just after the tragedies of the attack in Nauwan Garethi village on September 2, killing a two-and-half-year-old girl.
Bahraich continues to remain grim, with joint capture operations of the remaining wolf in order to save the local community. The operation by the forest department continues unabated in the hope that safety and normalcy will be restored to the affected villages.
