Pakistani Refugee Camp In Delhi To Be Demolished Today, Hindus In 170 Homes Stranded

The atmosphere of happiness among Pakistani refugees near Majnu ka Tila Gurudwara has turned to mourning due to a public notice from the DDA on the evening of June 11. After gaining Indian citizenship under CAA, around 70 Pakistani refugees had high hopes and dreams.

The DDA has posted notices on the walls and gates of some houses in this colony, which is illegally settled on the banks of the Yamuna. The public notice cites a court order and states that the houses and properties in the colony will be demolished between July 13 and 14. Residents have been given about 36 hours to vacate their homes and buildings.

This settlement, known as the Pakistani refugee camp, has about 170 houses. Over 900 people living there have come to India from Pakistan in the last 10 to 15 years. Tara, a Pakistani refugee who now has Indian citizenship, says, "We don't understand what will happen to us or the future of our children." Dharamveer, another Pakistani refugee, tearfully says, "We fled from Pakistan to save our lives and religion, but we aren't finding a place here in India either."
