New Delhi: Following an intense election campaign in sweltering heat, a 45-hour meditation session at the Vivekananda Memorial, and unanimous exit polls forecasting a decisive victory for his third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi resumes work on Sunday with a review meeting with PMO officials.

Before launching his extensive election campaign, PM Modi instructed top bureaucrats to use the interregnum period to prepare for decisions to be made in the first 100 days of his third term. He emphasized that all major decisions would be taken early in his administration, rather than waiting for the final 100 days before the 2029 elections.

While the bureaucracy has outlined the decisions for PM Modi's first 100 days, it is clear that merit and performance will now be the primary criteria for appointments to key positions, aligning with the Viksit Bharat vision of the BJP’s leading figure. Significant changes are anticipated in August 2024, following the formation of the new Cabinet and the presentation of the Union budget in early July. The initial appointments are expected to be Principal Secretary to the PM, Dr. P K Mishra, and National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, both crucial for administration and national security-intelligence. Additionally, key positions such as the new Army Chief and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau need to be filled this month.

Since PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision is rooted in the concept of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat," the primary focus of his third term will be on developing India's military-industrial complex, prioritizing self-reliance and domestic manufacturing. There are strong indications that domestic military and civilian manufacturing will receive incentives, with a preference for Indian platforms and intellectual properties.

The PMO officials have prepared an agenda for the first 100 days following the swearing-in of Modi 3.0, with adjustments being made based on the advice of PM Modi.

Politically, the NDA manifesto will be fully implemented, and diplomatically, PM Modi will stand out as the most senior and successful leader of the world’s largest democracy when he attends the G-7 on June 13.
