Punjab: 2 Goods Trains Collided, Hit A Passenger Train, More Than 500 Lives Saved

Two stationary goods trains collided when one's engine detached, derailing bogies and causing panic as it struck a passing passenger train in Punjab.

Suddenly, the engine of one goods train detached and collided with another goods train while they were both stationary. The impact was severe, causing the bogies of the goods train to derail and some to pile on top of each other. Additionally, the engine overturned and struck the Ambala Jammu Tawi passenger train passing on the adjacent track in Punjab. The collision caused panic among the passengers.

Luck played a crucial role as the pilot promptly applied emergency brakes. Thanks to the pilot's quick thinking, the lives of over 500 individuals were spared. However, the loco pilots of both goods trains sustained severe injuries in the accident. The incident occurred on the DFCC track near Madhopur Chowki, a short distance from Sirhind Railway Station in Fatehgarh Sahib, around 3:30 am on Sunday.

Sirhind GRP station in-charge Ratan Lal identified the loco pilots injured in the accident as 37-year-old Vikas Kumar and 31-year-old Himanshu Kumar, both residents of Saharanpur (UP). They were transported to Civil Hospital Fatehgarh Sahib with the assistance of a 108 ambulance. Upon observing their critical condition, the doctor referred them to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

The accident resembled a previous incident in Balasore, Odisha, which occurred last year. In that instance, a train collided with another stationary train on the railway track. During this collision, a third train passing by also became involved in the accident. Over 293 individuals lost their lives, and more than 1,000 were injured in the rail accident. However, thankfully, lives were spared in today's incident.
