On Monday, the Purnia authorities filed a case against Rajesh Ranjan, who is well known as Pappu Yadav, the newly-elected MP from Bihar's Purnia constituency. This all happened after a businessman accused him of attempting to extort money from him.

According to a statement issued by the police in Purnea district, Yadav called the complainant, who operates a furnishing business in his constituency, to his residence on June 4, when vote counting was underway, and demanded "Rs 1 crore" from him.

"The complainant claimed that Yadav had previously made similar demands in 2021 and 2023. Yadav threatened to kill the businessman if his demand wasn't met and warned him that he would have to deal with the MP for the next five years," stated the police.

Police registered a case against the MP and his associate, Amit Yadav, at Mofussil police station based on the complaint. The case falls under sections of the Indian Penal Code. An investigation is currently ongoing.

Pappu Yadav Reacts To The Situation

Meanwhile, the newly-elected MP from Purnia accused others of conspiring against him, suggesting that they were bothered by his increasing influence.

Pappu Yadav said "We will fully reveal this conspiracy planned by an official and my adversaries. An unbiased investigation should be overseen by the Supreme Court, and whoever is proven guilty should face capital punishment."

Yadav won the Lok Sabha seat for Purnia in Bihar in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

He secured victory in the Purnia seat with a lead of 23,847 votes against Santosh Kushwaha, a two-term JD (U) MP.

The Independent candidate gathered more than 5.67 lakh votes, while the JD (U) nominee received 5.43 lakh votes.
