Rajasthan Woman In Critical Condition After Wrong Kidney Removed, Doctor Denies Allegations

Rajasthan: A woman in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, is reportedly in critical condition after a doctor at a private hospital, where she was being treated for kidney stones, allegedly removed her healthy kidney instead of the damaged one. The doctor, however, has denied these allegations, stating that the operation was carried out correctly.

Eid Bano, a 30-year-old woman from Nua village, was suffering from kidney stones, prompting her to seek treatment at the hospital. After conducting some tests, Dr. Dhankhar allegedly informed Bano that her right kidney was damaged due to the kidney stones and needed to be removed urgently.

Bano's family agreed with the doctor's assessment, and the surgery was conducted on May 15. However, Dr. Dhankhar allegedly removed her healthy right kidney instead of the damaged left kidney.

Two days later, her condition worsened, and she was taken back to the hospital, where Dr. Dhankhar referred her for treatment in Jaipur. He also instructed Bano's family not to disclose to anyone about her operation on May 15.

When she was admitted to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, the family learned of Dr. Dhankhar's mistake. The doctors in Jaipur had no choice but to send her back home.

When the case of medical negligence came to light, Dhankhar visited the family home and offered money to cover the cost of Bano's treatment elsewhere. However, the family refused his offer and filed a police complaint.

Bano's husband, Shabbir, stated that a case had been registered and demanded strict action against Dhankhar.

Meanwhile, the doctor denied the accusation and maintained that her right kidney was damaged, which is why he performed the surgery to remove it. He has refuted any claim that his assessment was incorrect.

Following the incident, Chief Medical Health Officer Rajkumar Dangi formed a five-member team of doctors to investigate the matter. He also stated that hospital records had been seized as part of the probe.

As per the information, Dr. Dhankhar used to work as a surgeon at the BDK Government Hospital in Jhunjhunu. However, following the death of a patient, he was placed under an awaiting posting order (APO) and was suspended in 2017.

In 2020, he was assigned a posting in a village in Churu district, but Dr. Dhankhar did not report for duty.
