India is a land of diverse beliefs, cultural practices and customs. While many practices have reason behind them some don’t, but are widely popular in Indian societies. One such practice is polygamy which is illegal in India but was practiced in ancient times. Though, it wasn’t a major cultural practice still, people chose it as a matter of personal choice, belief, status symbol, moral and religious obligation.

One such village in India where it is still practiced is Ramdeyo ki Basti in Rajasthan. Men in this village have two wives who live under the same roof. It is said that there is no bone of contention among them and they all live happily.

The tradition of this village is very unique and villagers believe that this practice is rooted in superstitious beliefs. According to the villagers, people here believe that if a man marries only once, he will either have no children or he will have only daughters. In such a situation, people happily marry twice to fulfill their desire of having a son. Second marriage gives them hope of having son.
