An annual solar eclipse event also called “ring of fire” eclipse is going to occur on October 2. The eclipse has been named so as it happens when the moon passes between the sun and the earth.
The moon doesn’t cover the sun completely, which makes the outer edge of the sun visible. This outer edge becomes visible as a bright ring around the moon and creates a ring of fire effect.
According to NASA, “Like total solar eclipses, ring of fire eclipses only happen when there’s a new moon and the moon, the sun and Earth are in a straight—or nearly straight –line; but unlike total solar eclipses, annular eclipses occur when the moon is near its farthest point from Earth—called the apogee—which allows the ring of fire to be visible.”
How Long Does The Eclipse Last For?
This eclipse can last up to few seconds or over 12 minutes and the entire eclipse can take over three hours to complete as it goes through phases.
Where Will It Be Seen?
The annual solar eclipse can be seen in Hawaii in the US, parts of Chile, Argentina, and the South American countries will be able to see it partially.
According to the reports, this year’s ring of fire eclipse will have a path that goes through the South Pacific Ocean, the extreme southwestern Atlantic Ocean and South America, including Chile, Argentina and Easter Island.
Will ‘Ring of Fire’ Dazzle The Sky In India?
This year, it will last for over six hours and begin at 9:13 PM (IST) on 2nd October and will end at 3:17 am on 3rd October.
This celestial show might increase the excitement and curiosity in people, but the viewers will be disappointed to know that India will not be able to observe this ‘Ring of Fire’ solar eclipse. As the eclipse will occur in night in India, it won’t be visible to the sky-watchers.
During this time, the moon appears smaller.
Looking directly at the solar eclipse is dangerous, therefore viewers should use eclipse glasses or safe solar viewers.
