In response to a representation by the Minority Teachers Association, urging authorities to consider the needs of children during the Ramadan period, schools in Andhra Pradesh will adjust their timings from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm from March 12 to April 10 this year. This directive applies to Urdu medium primary, upper primary, and high schools, as well as parallel sections and the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) across the state.

The decision to adjust school timings in accordance with Ramadan was made following a request from the Minority Teachers Association, as stated in the circular. It further clarified that these scheduling changes would not impact Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Public Examinations or other tests.

These modifications aim to facilitate religious observances for students while ensuring minimal disruption to their academic routines. They underscore the educational authorities' dedication to accommodating students from diverse backgrounds and safeguarding their ability to practice their faith while pursuing their studies.

Muslims worldwide observe Ramadan, a sacred month of fasting, which occurs on the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The commencement of this holy period is determined by the moon-sighting commission in Saudi Arabia.

This year, the crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan was sighted in Saudi Arabia on the evening of March 10, leading Muslims to commence fasting on Monday, March 11. However, in India, the moon was observed on March 11, resulting in the fast beginning today, March 12.
