Seniors Assault Bengaluru Student, Break His Bone For Refusing To Shave

Bengaluru: A student enrolled in Krupanidhi Group of Institutions has been allegedly assaulted by his seniors for refusing to shave his beard and moustache. A case has been filed against the three accused who formed a team in April to intimidate him and lately ended with a brutal assault.

Ragging and abuse

The victim identified as Goutham was allegedly asked to shave his beard and moustache when he joined the institute in April 2024. On refusing this demand of the seniors who have been identified as Xavier Issac, Vishnu and Sharath, a group was formed to trouble him.

The trouble and intimidation which is unfortunately quite common by the seniors during higher studies if one doesn't follow their instructions, was stretched and went quite long till August. As per the FIR lodged in the police station, the assault took place on Friday (August 30) when the victim, Goutham was taken to St. Stephen's Marthoma Church, Hadosiddapura.

Seniors assault student for beard

Goutham's repeated refusal to go by his seniors' demands resulted in this assault which ended up with his fractured shoulder. The student was thereafter taken for medical assistance where he underwent surgery. On visiting their issue in the hospital and coming across this mishappening, his parents were concerned but they too were allegedly threatened by the accused at the hospital.

Probe underway by Bengaluru police

The complaint that has been filed, is under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 118(1) and 118(2) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous injury by dangerous weapons), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 190 (every member of illegal assembly accountable for an offence committed to further common object), 191(2) (rioting) and 351 (criminal intimidation).

In a similar incident that jolted the nation a year before, a student of Jadavpur University was asked to strip in the hostel's lobby, forced to parade naked and sexually assaulted by his seniors which led to his death after falling from the building.
