A tourist couple from Jaipur, Rajasthan, was injured, and a former Sarpanch was shot dead in back-to-back terrorist attacks in Pahalgam and Shopian districts in Jammu and Kashmir. Security measures have been heightened to ensure the safety of residents and tourists in the region.

According to top police officials, the first incident involved a tourist couple from Jaipur, Rajasthan, who were injured in a terrorist attack at Yannar Pahalgam area of Anantnag. The second incident saw the targeted shooting of former Sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, who was affiliated with the BJP, in Herpora area of Shopian. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, Sheikh tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The series of attacks has prompted authorities to increase security measures in the region, especially with the upcoming polls in Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency on May 25th. The heightened security aims to safeguard residents, tourists, and political figures from potential threats as the situation continues to unfold.

BJP Media incharge Sajid Yousuf told News24 that, BJP strongly condemn the killing of ex-Sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh in Heerpora, Shopian, South Kashmir, by terrorists. He said Aijaz Ahmad was a brave soldier of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP firmly stands with the family of Aijaz Ahmad, who lost his life in this terror attack.

The recent attacks serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges in South Kashmir, and efforts are being made to ensure the safety and protection of all individuals in the area.

Home Minister Amit Shah was in Srinagar for two days on 17th and 18th of May to meet different delegations after the record polling during the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency polls.
