Ghee at the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh was adulterated, said Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation's, parent company of Amul. An attempt was also being made to give a blow to the reputation of the ghee by saying that it was an Amul product, he told ANI.

"We have filed an FIR with the cybercrime branch in Ahmedabad," he said. Mehta also argued that this campaign against Amul is serious since the brand supports 36 lakh families.

Amul Says It Never Supplied Ghee To Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam

"Our products are of the highest quality and have strict quality checks. We ask people to be cautious about the propaganda against us," he said. Mehta also clarified that Amul has never supplied ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam which manages the temple.

Cyber Crime DCP Lavina Sinha, from Ahmedabad Police, confirmed that Amul had filed an FIR. "We received a complaint from Amul employees yesterday and have registered an FIR. According to them, some people with false social media accounts spread the news that some ghee used in Tirupati prasadam contained animal fat and was supplied by Amul," she said.

The controversy started after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu accused his political rival and predecessor, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, of using 'substandard ingredients,' including animal fat, in laddus offered as prasadam at the Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati.
