5.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Pakistan, Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi: An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Pakistan on Wednesday afternoon, while tremors were felt across North India.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Afghanistan, Delhi-NCR and other states. Netizens in Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan, and New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir in India, reported that they felt tremors on Wednesday afternoon.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 has struck Pakistan, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said. It said that the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles).

“An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Pakistan at 12:58 pm (IST) today,” the National Center for Seismology said.

Epicentre and the Affected Areas

The reports said that the epicentre of the earthquake was duly recorded near the Dera Ghazi Khan region, in the southwestern part of Punjab in Pakistan, and a depth of 10 kilometres. Extensive feelings of the quake continued across the country, particularly within the major cities of Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Bhakkar, and scores of other cities in Punjab. Tremors were felt within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, especially within the major cities of Peshawar, Swat, DI Khan, and North Waziristan.
