Congress MP Rahul Gandhi met with well-known wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia before heading to Kashmir. This meeting has sparked rumors about whether Phogat and Punia might join the Congress party, especially as the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) is finalizing its list of candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.
The CEC, led by Deepak Babaria, has chosen 34 candidates for the Haryana polls. Babaria mentioned that the final list of candidates will be announced by August 4. Amid this process, speculation about Vinesh Phogat’s possible entry into politics is gaining attention. Babaria promised that details about Phogat's political future will be revealed by Wednesday.

Phogat’s rumored move into Haryana politics is creating a buzz. If she does enter the political arena, it could add to the controversy surrounding former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who faces allegations of sexual harassment. Phogat and other wrestlers had previously protested against Singh.

Recently, Vinesh Phogat showed her support for farmers by joining their protest at the Shambhu border. She was warmly welcomed and given garlands by the farmers, which only fueled speculation about her political plans.
The Haryana Assembly elections, set for October 5, are expected to be very competitive. Issues such as anti-incumbency, farmers' protests, wrestlers' protests, dissatisfaction among government employees, and the influence of the Jat community are all factors that could affect the results.

He has been a vocal advocate for the wrestlers’ protests against Singh and has shown openness to Phogat's potential political move.
Hooda said, 'An athlete belongs to the whole nation, not just one party or state. It's up to her if she wants to join any party. We always welcome anyone who joins the Congress party.'
