Yamuna In Delhi Flows Close To Warning Mark, Triggering Concerns

Despite the rising water, railway services remain unaffected, with engineers closely monitoring the situation

Amid the ongoing rainfall in Delhi-NCR, The water level of the Yamuna River at the Old Delhi rail bridge is expected to surpass the warning mark by Tuesday evening. Currently, the river stands at 204.35 meters, just below the warning level of 204.5 meters. Forecasts suggest that the water level could rise to 204.9 meters by this evening. The highest flood level ever recorded for the Yamuna is 208.66 meters.

Railway Services Unaffected, Vigilance Intensified

Despite the rising water levels, there has been no disruption in railway services. Railway engineers are closely monitoring the situation to ensure safety. Additionally, in light of the full dress rehearsals for Independence Day, police personnel have ramped up security measures, including patrolling in affected areas.

Police and Security Measures

DCP Shahdara, Surendra Chaudhary, confirmed that security arrangements have been in place across the district since the morning. Border checkpoints have been established, and boat patrolling is being conducted in the Yamuna Khadar area. Comprehensive checking is underway throughout the district as a precautionary measure.

Delhi Government’s Efforts to Monitor Pollution in Yamuna

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has begun setting up 32 online monitoring stations along the Yamuna River and various open drains that flow into it. These stations will provide real-time data on pollutants entering the heavily polluted river. A total of 32 Online Monitoring Stations (OLMS), including 14 along the Yamuna and 18 at different drain locations, are expected to be operational by the end of this year, according to a Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) officer.
