The Healing Touch of Yoga on the Mind

Mental health is of utmost importance these days with so much cacophony around. There is absolutely nothing like experiencing bliss, harmony, serenity and peace of mind. All these can be achieved seamlessly through induction of a regular yoga session in your daily routine.

Yoga Poses for Perfect Mental Health

Serotonin is responsible for that feel-good factor in a human. With its increase one can experience an upliftment in their total well being which can come from perfect mental health. The moment the brain experiences a deficiency in it depression kicks in well. So, to avoid all these there are a few yogic postures that you could carry out even in the comfort of your home.

Balasana or Child’s Pose

This is one of the most common yoga poses that one can do. It is very restorative and comforting in nature. It is extremely comfortable because it helps you remain rooted to the ground and whose support provides comfort during times of depression and anxiety. It also releases the tension in the spine thereby calming the nerves.

Savasana or Corpse Pose

It is another of those gentle, relaxing and comforting postures that yoga can offer. It is in reality a meditative pose that aids in controlling the mind. In the process it frees the mind of all anxiety, stress and depression bringing in clarity. The physical aspect of the pose is easy and relaxing which everyone can master, however the mental side is a bit tough. It is tough in the sense that it requires you to focus on your breath or any one mantra. Once achieved it can unleash total and deep calm and bliss. It is done after the entire yoga session is over as it allows for integration of all the positive energy and physical achievements that may have been acquired during the session.

Sukhasana or Easy Pose

It is that pose which you almost always see people in when they are meditating. You will see a person sitting on the floor cross-legged with their spines in a straight line. It helps you regain all your lost confidence which you require in plenty to deal with anxiety, depression and chronic stress that is gnawing at you. With the base of the spine connecting to the ground, it keeps you grounded and stable. The symmetry of the posture helps you in being centred. These are the two important factors that help you overcome your anxiety and depression.

Viparita Karani or Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose

This is one of the most calming poses that can bring in peace and calm to an overly anxious and disturbed mind. The pose requires the person to raise the legs above the heart. This brings in a sense of calm through the entire body. Its effects are best noticed when done immediately before bedtime. It helps in releasing the tension of the whole day.

Pashchimottanasana or Seated Forward Bend Pose

It is extremely effective in bringing calm and peace to the mind while easing out anxiety from the body. It is a time when you can unwind and relax allowing all the tensions to ease out from the body. It works out various muscles like the pelvic, erector, gluteus and gastrocnemius muscles.
