Heavy rainfall in Mumbai has disrupted the day to day activities in the city. The downpour has flooded many roads and even led to diversion of several flights.
Traffic congestion has created problems for the commuters affecting vehicular movement across the city. In visuals from parts of the city, vehicles could be seen moving slowly leading to long line of vehicles in the road.
The bad weather condition in Mumbai has affected the flights. Airlines including SpiceJet, IndiGo and Vistara have informed through post on X that their flights have been diverted.
SpiceJet Airlines wrote, “Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via bit.ly/2tG9xBX.”
Indigo has also released travel advisory for the passengers. In their X post, Indigo said, “It's raining in #Mumbai & flight schedules are impacted due to weather conditions and air traffic congestion. If you or your loved ones are travelling, you may keep a tab on the flight status https://bit.ly/3DNYJqj and allow ample travel time to the airport.”
Local train services in the region were also affected due to intense spell. Mumbai Division of Central Railway wrote, “Due to Heavy Rain in the Mumbai and Suburban areas and water logging in several locations between Vidyavihar and Mulund stations UP and Down slow train services are affected from (20:10), The inconvenience caused is regretted. @Central_Railway @YatriRailways.”
Metro stations were crowded and stampede like situation was reported from different stations.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for Mumbai. According to the IMD weather forecast, heavy rains are likely to continue in Mumbai till September 27.
Following IMD’s red alert for Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the closure of schools and colleges for one day.
BMC said, “In view of this, all schools and colleges in Mumbai have been declared a holiday for tomorrow Thursday, 26 September 2024, in consideration of the safety of students. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration requests Mumbaikars to step out of homes only if required.”
Heavy rain lashed the city yesterday evening and brought the city to standstill.
The weather department has issued Red Alert for Mumbai and Thane, predicting extremely heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds today.
According to the reports, four people have died due to heavy rainfall that took place yesterday.
It’s been reported that a 45-year-old woman named Vimal Gaikwad drowned in an open drain in the MIDC area of Andheri, Mumbai. Similarly, another woman drowned near Zenith waterfall in Khopoli. While two workers at stone quarry in Kalyan were killed by lightning.
