Assassination threat

The Republican candidate for the US presidential election and the former President of the country, Donald Trump in his latest tweet on X has sternly raised concerns regarding alleged threats to his life from Iran after which his security has been heightened.

Citing the intel inputs his campaign team received from the US intelligence officials, Donald Trump posted on X, "Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before. Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service - Zero “NO” Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!"

Assassination attempt by Iran

He mentioned in his post about the tightened security after the intel sources briefed him on a threat from Iran to assassinate him and poured in gratitude towards the Congress for "unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service".

Notably, Trump escaped two assassination attempts during his election campaign in the two months since July. Highlighting double killing attempts, SpaceX founder Elon Musk wrote on X a week ago questioning why only Trump and not Biden or Harris are on the assassination threat, the post was later deleted.

Kamala Harris too witnessed gunfire

The Democrat candidate for the US Presidential elections, Kamala Harris too came across the same spine-chilling experience on Monday when gunfire was reported at her election campaign office in Arizona. Law enforcement has beefed up the security on the premises and the pieces of evidence recovered from the spot are being analyzed.

The Iranian permanent mission to the UN in New York didn't respond to comment on the allegations put on their nation regarding Trump's assassination threat. Iran, however, previously denied the allegations of its interference in the US.

When Iran pledged retaliation

"I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before", wrote Trump in his latest post. His security has been tightened manifold to avoid any possible killing attempts that are nowadays seen as retaliation by Tehran for the killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani in 2020 at the hands of the US. Notably, the killing of Soleimani fumed Iran in 2020 and they pledged strongest retaliation against Trump who was then the President of the US.

Are a number of guns around Trump helping his security? Why is there more arm-license than liability? The US is a country with weaker arms laws where people across the nation carry assault-style rifles. As per a report by Everytown, “A study found that the federal prohibition on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines was associated with a significant decrease in public mass shootings and related casualties, preventing at least 11 public mass shootings during the 10 years it was in effect."

This report also estimated that had the law remained enacted from 2005 to 2019, it would have prevented at least 30 mass shootings which consequently would have prevented 339 people from dying.

Trump boasts of not curbing arms

But the Republican candidate who is engulfed by the heightened security these days, has a completely different stance on gun laws in the US. Not only did he keep the law related to the prohibition of assault weapons at par during his last tenure as the President, but Trump also boasted at the NRA Convention in February that he did nothing to curb guns. He further promised that if re-elected, "No one will lay a finger on your firearms". It is the same candidate who is cobwebbed in security forces due to assassination threats.

There's a little chance that if re-elected, Donald Trump will make a decision to curb arms who otherwise has been promoting them. However, the picture might change if the Democrats grab the throne as Kamala Harris seems a little promising in taking up the causes for upholding peace. What the US currently sees is an army of security personnel around the VVIPs be it Kamala or Trump, only because there are arms in every hand that have no liability but license.
