Australian cricketer Matthew Wade received an official reprimand for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during a Group B match against England in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.

Australia Batter Matthew Wade Reprimanded By ICC

Wade breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to "showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match." Additionally, one demerit point was added to Wade’s disciplinary record; this is his first offence within a 24-month period.

The incident took place in the 18th over of Australia’s innings when Wade hit a delivery from leg-spinner Adil Rashid back to the bowler. Expecting the umpire to call it a 'dead ball,' Wade argued with the umpires when the call wasn’t made.

Wade admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Nitin Menon and Joel Wilson, third umpire Asif Yaqoob, and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madangopal filed the charge. Level 1 breaches come with a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of a 50 percent match fee deduction, and the addition of one or two demerit points.

In match number 17, Australia secured a comfortable victory over their rivals England by 36 runs in Barbados. Adam Zampa played a pivotal role for the 2021 champions, finishing with figures of 2/28 in his four overs. Pat Cummins also took two wickets. On the batting side, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh contributed 39 and 35 runs, respectively.
