Virender Sehwag Feels Shubman Gill Should Follow Rohit Sharma As T20I Captain

Sehwag expressed his support for Gill's appointment, suggesting that the youngster is an ideal candidate to permanently take over as captain when Rohit steps down.

The squad includes only two players from the main T20 World Cup team: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson. The rest of the World Cup squad members have been rested.

"Shubman Gill is for the long haul. He's a player who plays all three formats. He's had a great last year. He was unlucky to miss out on the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to me, it is the right decision to make him the captain. When Rohit Sharma leaves tomorrow, Shubman Gill will be his right replacement for captaincy," Sehwag said.

Players like Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, who are on the reserve list for the T20 World Cup, have also been included in the squad.

Promising young talents who have excelled in the Indian Premier League and domestic cricket over the past year have earned multiple call-ups. In addition to familiar international names, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande have received their first call-ups following their impressive IPL performances.
