Royal Challengers Bangalore's wicketkeeper-batter, Dinesh Karthik, has suggested that he might retire from the IPL after this season. This hint came after the match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday, March 22, at the Chepauk stadium. Karthik mentioned that this match could potentially be his final appearance at the iconic ground, especially following CSK's victory over RCB in the season opener. Throughout his IPL career, Karthik has been a prominent figure, having played for six different teams in the league. He also served as the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders at one point.

Prior to the commencement of the new season, there were reports suggesting that this could mark Dinesh Karthik's last season as a player in the IPL, as he intended to transition towards commentary work. Karthik himself confirmed during the post-match press conference that retirement could indeed be a possibility.

When asked if the match at Chepauk could potentially be his last, Dinesh Karthik responded by expressing his hope to return for the Playoffs if they were to be held in Chennai. He stated, "That's a great question. I genuinely wish it's not, because a couple of matches of the Playoffs could be here. If I come back for that, that could be the last. Otherwise, I think it could be." This indicates his uncertainty about the finality of the match, depending on the location of future Playoff matches.

In the IPL season opener for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Karthik played a crucial innings alongside Anuj Rawat, scoring an unbeaten 38 runs off 26 balls. However, despite their efforts, RCB lost the match to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets. Karthik admitted that balancing commentary work and IPL preparations had been challenging but was pleased with his performance in the first game.
