A new camera angle of Suryakumar Yadav's spectacular catch during the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa has dispelled all allegations of it being an ‘unfair catch.’ Suryakumar demonstrated a remarkable presence of mind as he held on to a stunning catch at long-off, turning the game in India’s favor in the final over of the thrilling match.

New Footage Puts Suryakumar Yadav Catch Controversy To Bed

With South Africa needing 16 runs to win off the last six balls, David Miller hit a full toss from Hardik Pandya high towards long-off. However, Miller failed to get the required distance, and the ball dropped just inside the boundary towards Suryakumar Yadav, who managed to grab it safely.

Although the momentum seemed to be carrying the Indian fielder over the boundary, he showed great presence of mind by releasing the ball at the right time as he fell outside the boundary. Suryakumar quickly jumped back inside to grab the ball again, completing one of the greatest catches ever in an ICC event final. Consequently, Miller was dismissed after scoring 21 (17), leaving South Africa still needing 16 runs from the last five balls.

After Miller's dismissal, Pandya kept his composure and successfully defended 15 runs, helping India win their second T20 World Cup by seven runs. However, following India’s victory, several videos of Suryakumar’s catch from a certain angle surfaced, with some people suggesting that the India star had brushed the boundary cushions while holding the ball.

Recently, another video of the catch has been circulating on social media, showing a different angle that clarifies the controversy. The video clearly shows the distance between Suryakumar’s feet and the boundary throughout the catch, confirming that he did not make any contact with the boundary cushions while completing the catch.

Meanwhile, India has arrived in New Delhi after their T20 World Cup triumph, where they were hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a special meet. The Men in Blue will next travel to Mumbai for an open-top bus victory parade and will be finally felicitated at the Wankhede Stadium.
