Gautam Gambhir expressed support for the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) decision to introduce a 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme,' aimed at encouraging players to participate in Test cricket. Gambhir commended the move on a social media platform, emphasizing the importance of providing clarity and certainty to players to enhance their performance.

In line with its commitment to prioritize Test cricket, the BCCI announced that players participating in 75% or more of the scheduled red-ball games in a season would receive an incentive of Rs 45 lakhs per game. This initiative aims to bolster the significance of Test cricket, with players potentially earning substantial additional income alongside their regular match fees.

Notably, veteran cricketers such as Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav, who were not awarded contracts for the current season, will receive incentives for their performances in the previous season. Additionally, top cricketers receive a retainer fee as part of their annual central contracts.
