Ind vs Afg: India will face Afghanistan in their first Super 8 match in the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma's squad will go up against a crafty Afghanistan led by Rashid Khan. Afghanistan, known for their strength in the T20I format, will aim to cause an upset against India, who are among the favorites to win the tournament.

Rashid Khan's team has shown some outstanding performances, especially their best one against New Zealand. Afghanistan bowled out New Zealand for a mere 75 runs during the group stage of the T20 World Cup, effectively eliminating them from the tournament. Players like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Naveen-ul-Haq bring a wealth of experience to the format and can be extremely dangerous when they hit their stride.

India has a dominant record against Afghanistan in T20Is, having won 7 out of the 8 matches they have played against them. The only match Afghanistan did not lose was during the 2023 Asian Games, which was abandoned due to rain in Hangzhou, China.

Their first encounter was in the 2010 T20 World Cup, where India won by 7 wickets. Subsequently, they met in the 2012 and 2021 editions of the tournament, both of which were won by India. Most recently, in a 3-match series, Afghanistan came close to defeating India but lost in the Super Over.

In the 8 matches played between India and Afghanistan:

- India has won 7 matches (6 regular matches + 1 Super Over win).
- Afghanistan has not won any match.

Despite Afghanistan not having won against India, head coach Rahul Dravid has shown respect for their team. Speaking at the pre-match press conference before their upcoming game, Dravid acknowledged that Afghanistan has recognized stars in their team who have spent a significant amount of time in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He emphasized that Afghanistan deserves respect and stressed that India would not underestimate them in the world tournament.
