Team India skipper Rohit Sharma was not present with the team to lead them out on Day 3 of the 5th Test against England in Dharamsala. The player was forced to be out of the team with a stiff back which is why Jasprit Bumrah had to lead out the team.

The BCCI made an announcement on X (formerly Twitter) regarding Rohit's back injury, the severity of which remains uncertain. Despite a lackluster performance in the first two Tests, the Indian captain has displayed remarkable batting prowess in the latter part of the series.

In five matches and nine innings, Rohit has amassed 400 runs at an average of 44.44, including two centuries and a fifty, with his highest score being 131. He currently stands as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the series.

Moving on to the ongoing match, England is in their second innings, tasked with overcoming India's lead of 259 runs. At the conclusion of the first session, England reached 103/5, with Joe Root (34*) remaining unbeaten, trailing by 156 runs.

Rohit Starring On Day 2

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both achieved centuries, contributing to a remarkable performance where all of India's top five batters scored at least fifty runs, setting a new Test record against England.

Initially under scrutiny for his form at the series' outset, Rohit has admirably led the team in the absence of key players. Despite the initial doubts, he has now accumulated 400 runs in the series. Additionally, Rohit's adept leadership in addressing England's much-hyped Bazball approach has been praiseworthy.

Indian cricket enthusiasts will be hoping that Rohit Sharma's back issue is minor, considering his crucial role as the Mumbai Indians' skipper in IPL 2024 and India's aspirations for success in the upcoming T20 World Cup in June.
