Brook's grandmother died in February. "I can confirm that I have made the very difficult decision not to play in the upcoming IPL," Brook said in a statement.

Brook joins a list that includes Alex Hales, Jason Roy, and Mitchell Starc, who have previously opted out of the IPL for similar reasons. According to a report from Cricbuzz, IPL franchises are displeased with this trend and are calling on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to tackle the issue.

"Once players register for the auction, they should honour their commitment. Reneging on it is unprofessional, and the BCCI should address this," voiced a franchise official.

Delhi Capitals are now in search of a replacement for Harry Brook, and it's noted in the report that franchises believe these abrupt player withdrawals can disrupt the carefully planned auction strategies of the teams. Brook announced on Wednesday that he's opted out of the upcoming Indian Premier League, citing the desire to support his grieving family following the passing of his grandmother.
