IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans Skipper Shubman Gill One Wrong Move Away From A Ban, Here's How

The IPL enforces a stringent over-rate regulation, consistently escalating the penalty each time players violate the rule. In the event of a recurrence, Gill will face a fine of Rs 24 Lakh, while the team members will each incur a fine of Rs 6 Lakh.

Indian Premier League's (IPL 2024) newly appointed captain of the Gujarat Titans Shubman Gill has had a mixed start to his first season as a captain of an IPL side. Opening his account with a win against Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians in his opening tie, Gill then faced defeat against MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings on March 26.

GT Fined For Slow Over-Rate

However, there is a big chance for the Indian star batter to be slapped with a one-match ban if his side continues to make wrong moves during their games. Both Shubman Gill and his fellow GT teammates have been fined for a slow over-rate against CSK. The bowlers failed to complete the team's 20 overs in the given 90 minutes which led to a Rs 12 Lakh fine for the skipper.

Two Strikes And You're Out

IPL is strict about the over-rate rule and continues to increase the penalty every single time the offense is repeated by the players. The next time this happens, Gill will be fined for Rs 24 Lakh while the team players will also be fined for Rs 6 Lakh respectively.

If the team again fails to wrap up its overs in time, skipper Shubman Gill would be slapped with a hefty Rs 30 Lakh fine along with one match ban which could be dangerous for last year's finalists.

With the team leaving a big gap in the squad after the exit of former skipper Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians, the responsibility has been handed over to Gill who will try his best to keep the standards of play up to the mark. With a match ban looking highly unlikely for the GT skipper, Gill will make amends in the next match.
