IPL 2024: Kieron Pollard, Tim David Punished For DRS Call Controversy

"Mumbai Indians batter Tim David and Batting Coach Kieron Pollard have been fined for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct during their team’s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 18," IPL said via a statement on their website.
"David and Pollard committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. David and Pollard were each fined 20 percent of their respective match fees. Both admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the statement further read.
MI Players And Coaching Staff Fined
Although the specific reasons for the fine were not disclosed, it is speculated that David may have been penalized for assisting MI batters with DRS decisions from the dugout, which is against the rules. A video of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing David suggesting a review for a wide ball. PBKS captain Sam Curran had objected to this action, but the on-field umpires still took the review.
Meanwhile, Pollard was involved in an argument with the umpires and entered the cricket field in an attempt to call for a time-out. The MI dugout had signaled for batters Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma to take a time-out, but they either did not see the request or ignored it. Pollard and other MI players and staff were instructed to leave the playing area by the umpires.
