Opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians' openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan adopted an aggressive approach at the Wankhede Stadium, swiftly accumulating runs on the scoreboard. Rohit, who was just 23 runs shy of reaching the 1000-run milestone against Delhi Capitals in the lucrative league, displayed exceptional power-hitting across the ground.

The opening pair concluded the powerplay phase with the score at 75/0, indicating a promising innings ahead for the five-time champions. However, Rohit Sharma fell short of completing his half-century, departing for 49 runs off 27 deliveries, including 6 boundaries and 3 sixes.

This isn't the first time Rohit Sharma has achieved the feat of scoring 1000 runs against Delhi. He has also amassed 1000 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, making Delhi his second favorite team to score against.

With Mumbai Indians pinning their hopes on Suryakumar Yadav's return at number three following an injury hiatus, the top-ranked T20I batsman endured a forgettable comeback, being dismissed for a duck courtesy of Anrich Nortje.

Suryakumar Yadav attempted his trademark lofted shot to open his account but was caught brilliantly by a fielder on the day.

However, Skipper Hardik Pandya and Tim David made sure that the Mumbai fans would witness a mammoth total being posted for the 5-time champions.

Tim David's 45 was complimented by a swashbuckling 39*-run cameo by Romario Shepherd who scored 32 runs in the final over and took Mumbai to 234/5
