With players coming in and going out at the same time for Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals, the team has had to do some last minute changes to their squad. The most recent news being the ruling out of South African pacer Lungi Ngidi, Delhi did some quick business to rope in Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement for the pacer. However, their other loss was in the name of Harry Brook who opted out of the entire tournament due to personal reasons and leaves another gap in the team.

Because Lungi Ngidi was selected at his base price of INR 50 Lakh and Fraser-McGurk fell into the same category, it was logical for the Capitals to opt for a replacement in a similar price range. Therefore, by releasing Harry Brook, who had a base price of INR 2 crore, the Capitals now have the flexibility to consider fast bowlers and pace-bowling all-rounders from various price brackets, starting from the highest.

With less than a month left for the domestic season to kick off, Delhi would have to look elsewhere for options to replace the English batter. Here are some options that will prove to be helpful for the side in order to get their hands on their maiden IPL trophy.

Replacement Options For Delhi Capitals In IPL 2024

Josh Hazlewood

Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opted to release the Australian pacer, who is anticipating fatherhood by the end of March. Despite his skill, uncertainty regarding his availability led to no other team selecting Josh Hazlewood. However, with Delhi Capitals already possessing Anrich Nortje and Jhye Richardson as their primary pacers, and considering that Hazlewood's base price aligns with that of Brook's, the Capitals could now consider bringing in a pace-bowling option later in the season.

Jason Holder

Once an injury occurred, Jake Fraser-McGurk quickly became the preferred choice for the Delhi Capitals due to his involvement with the franchise's satellite team in the International League T20, Dubai Capitals. Now, if the team requires a pace option, considering they already have Nortje and Richardson, they may also seek a pace-bowling all-rounder as a backup for Mitchell Marsh. Additionally, Jason Holder, who is part of the ILT20 side, could be considered as a potential replacement for Brook.

Lance Morris

As the Warriors gradually increase Anrich Nortje's workload in the ongoing CSA T20 Challenge, there's a possibility that he might not start in all 14 games for the Capitals. In such a scenario, the 2020 finalists may consider alternatives, such as South African pace talent Lance Morris. Known for his pace and ability to trouble batters with his aggressive bowling style, Morris could offer a valuable option for the Capitals.

Luke Wood

In the past few years, the Capitals have favored having a left-arm pace bowling option in their squad, with players like Mustafizur Rahman filling that role. However, due to the emergence of Khaleel Ahmed as a regular option, Rahman hasn't had many opportunities. Nevertheless, if the Capitals wish to explore this direction again, England's Luke Wood could be a promising choice. Known for his effectiveness, particularly during the powerplay overs, Wood has showcased his bowling skills impressively, including in tournaments like the BPL and the ongoing PSL.
