With the blockbuster Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians set to kick off on April 14, Mumbai's lethal pacer Jasprit Bumrah going in with his average form against MS Dhoni's CSK might come back to haunt him in the encounter. However, one cricketing legend doesn't think so.

West Indies legend Brian Lara expressed confidence that Jasprit Bumrah's previous struggles against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the MI vs CSK clash won't impact the upcoming match on April 14, citing Bumrah's exceptional current form. Despite the Indian star pacer's impressive performance in MI's recent victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and his contention for the Purple Cap with 10 wickets from 5 matches, his track record against CSK has been less remarkable.

In 14 encounters against the 5-time champions, Jasprit Bumrah has only managed to secure 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.73, with a bowling average of 34.58, his second-worst against any IPL team after Lucknow (55). Additionally, his strike rate of 26.83 against CSK pales in comparison to his performances against other IPL teams. However, Lara dismissed the significance of these statistics, emphasizing the current form of Jasprit Bumrah.

Brian Lara Backs Jasprit Bumrah To Star vs CSK

Speaking to Star Sports, the West Indies legend highlighted Bumrah's outstanding form, indicating that such historical data holds little relevance when considering his current prowess. Lara's assertion reflects a belief in Bumrah's ability to perform at his peak regardless of past encounters, instilling confidence in the Indian pacer ahead of the clash at the Wankhede stadium.

"Well, I would pay no attention to that because the form that he's in now is just unbelievable. He's bowling well. I spoke to Shepherd and he said, You know, I try to stay away from Bumrah in the nets because he bowls seriously in the nets. His ability to pick up wickets also stifles the batters, puts them under a lot of pressure. I think it's just unbelievable. He is a big asset to Mumbai Indians, the battle or the fact that he's not done well against CSK. I mean, I've not seen those stats, has no bearing on this match because I think he's in top form with five wickets in the last match. He is going to be lethal against that CSK batting lineup," said Lara.
