Mohammed Shami, a famous Indian fast bowler, is making news because he might enter politics. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked him to run for the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal. They want him to contest the Basirhat seat. Shami hasn't decided yet because he's recovering from surgery and not playing cricket.

5 Cricketers Who Joined Indian Politics 

1. Navjot Singh Sidhu

Navjot Singh Sidhu, a former Indian cricket player, began his political journey with the BJP in 2004. He won the Amritsar seat in his first attempt in the Lok Sabha elections. However, he left the BJP in 2016 and joined the Congress Party.

2. Mohammad Azharuddin

Mohammad Azharuddin, another former Indian cricket captain, faced allegations of match-fixing which affected his cricket career. In 2009, he joined the Congress Party and won the Lok Sabha seat from Moradabad. However, he lost in the 2014 elections and also faced defeat in the Telangana Assembly elections in 2023.

3. Shanthakumaran Sreesanth

Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, a former fast bowler, entered politics by contesting the 2016 Kerala Assembly elections on a BJP ticket from Thiruvananthapuram but lost. He represented India in Tests, ODIs, and T20 Internationals.

4. Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian batsman, joined the BJP in March 2019 and won the East Delhi seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a significant margin.

5. Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh, a former Indian spinner, is now a member of the Rajya Sabha on an AAP ticket. He retired from international cricket in December 2021 after representing India in Tests, ODIs, and T20 Internationals.
