Justin Langer, the former Australian opener, has shown interest in coaching the Indian men's national cricket team following the BCCI's call for applications for the prestigious position.

Rahul Dravid, the current coach, is expected to wrap up his extended stint with the Indian team after the T20 World Cup in June 2024. While Dravid can choose to reapply for the position, it's unlikely that he will retain his current role.

Langer, who is currently coaching the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2024, might contemplate submitting an application for the position after the World Cup.

With nearly four years of coaching experience with the Australian team, Langer played a crucial role in rejuvenating Australian cricket following the Sandpapergate scandal in 2018. Under his guidance, Australia also secured their first-ever T20 World Cup title in 2021.

Justin Langer expressed his curiosity about the position while speaking in an interview. He acknowledged that coaching the Indian team would be an extraordinary role, given the immense talent in the country.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had previously mentioned that the board is open to considering foreign coaches. The last foreign coach the Indian men's team had was Duncan Fletcher in 2014 before Ravi Shastri assumed the role.

The selection of the new head coach for the Indian team will be carried out by BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee, which consists of Ashok Malhotra, Sulakshana Naik, and Jatin Paranjape.
