The Protean Fast Bowler, Nandre Burger will not return to the field for the remaining games of the three-match one-day international series in Abu Dhabi against Ireland as well as the Test series against Bangladesh, following a confirmed lumbar stress reaction.

Burger had reportedly been complaining of discomfort in his lower back and his complications have indeed been confirmed, according to Cricket South Africa (CSA), which released this information on Friday ahead of the second ODI. He'll leave home to be further assessed.

While there is no word on a replacement for the third ODI, which South Africa currently leads 1-0 following a convincing 139-run victory in the first, CSA will announce a replacement for the Test series in Dhaka and Chattogram later. The fast-bowling options for the Test squad are Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder.

Rested due to a soft tissue injury in his right knee, Tony de Zorzi will miss the second ODI against Ireland. De Zorzi sustained the soft tissue injury while attempting to field a ball that rolled out of the sandy outfield during Wednesday's first ODI. De Zorzi left the field limping on the sidelines and went in for MRI scans, which confirmed his injury.

De Zorzi is in the Test squad for Bangladesh and looks set to open against Aiden Markram. There's no other acknowledged opening batsman available so Bavuma's order looks like being captain at number three, then Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, either Ryan Rickelton or Kyle Verreynne as wicket-keeper, and uncapped Matthew Breetzke as backup.
