Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni recently discussed his fitness regimen in preparation for the IPL season. Since retiring from international cricket in 2020, the former Indian captain exclusively plays for CSK in the IPL, making it challenging for him to stay fit year-round.

Discussing the competition in the T20 league, Dhoni revealed that he must be at his peak fitness to compete against younger international players, as age offers no concessions. The 42-year-old also emphasized his training and eating habits, and mentioned that avoiding social media benefits him.

Dhoni explained that the most challenging aspect is not playing cricket throughout the year, requiring him to maintain high fitness levels. He emphasized the competition against younger, international players who are consistently fit. In professional sports, he noted, age doesn't offer any leniency, and to continue playing, one must match the fitness levels of others. Dhoni also mentioned the importance of his eating habits and training regimen. Additionally, he pointed out that being off social media has helped reduce distractions.

Furthermore, Dhoni highlighted that riding motorbikes and collecting vintage cars play a significant role in helping him de-stress.

Dhoni shared that after retiring from international cricket, he wanted to spend more time with his family. However, to stay mentally active and focused, he engaged in activities he loves, such as farming, riding motorbikes, and collecting vintage cars. These hobbies help him de-stress. When he feels stressed, spending a few hours in the garage with his bikes and cars helps him relax and feel rejuvenated.

Speculations about Dhoni's retirement have been rampant since CSK's elimination from the IPL 2024 after a 27-run loss to RCB in their final match. In this game, the Ranchi-born cricketer was dismissed for 25 off 13 balls, unable to lead his team to the 201 runs needed for qualification.

As a result, CSK exited the tournament without advancing to the knockouts for only the third time in their history. Dhoni showcased his vintage form in the season, scoring 161 runs from 11 innings at an impressive average of 53.66 and a strike rate of 220.54. His crucial unbeaten cameo of 20 runs off just 4 balls played a decisive role against MI, helping Chennai secure a 20-run victory.
