For the first time since 2009, the French Open men's singles final will not feature Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic, as both were eliminated early in the 2024 tournament for different reasons. This marks a significant shift, as Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Casper Ruud, and Alexander Zverev vie for the two final spots, heralding the arrival of the 'gen next' in men's tennis.

No Djokovic, Nadal Or Federer In Final After 20 Years

It was back in 2004 that the French Open men's singles final last lacked either Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, or Rafael Nadal. Even in 2009, though neither Nadal nor Djokovic reached the final, Roger Federer faced Robin Soderling in the decisive match. Prior to this, Nadal had made the finals for the previous four years. The last final without any of the three legends was in 2004 when Gaston Gaudio triumphed over Guillermo Coria.

As we approach the 2024 semi-finals, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are set for a thrilling match, which has become known for its spectacular outcomes. This ninth chapter in their growing rivalry is highly anticipated. Both players, aiming for their first Roland Garros final, have emerged as the best of their generation. With Djokovic out, the winner of this match will likely be the favorite for Sunday's championship.

Alcaraz and Sinner both had injury concerns before arriving in Paris, but their decision to skip Rome appears to have been wise. The 21-year-old Spaniard, Alcaraz, increasingly looks capable of becoming the youngest man to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces. However, he faces a tough challenge in his first Grand Slam match against Sinner since their five-set quarter-final at the 2022 US Open, where Alcaraz secured his first major victory.
