Paris Olympics 2024: After Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat Faces Defeat In Qualifiers

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat suffered a major loss in the ongoing wrestling selection trials which are underway for the Paris Olympics 2024. Vinesh, who sat in protest against the former WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh lost against wrestler Anju with a score of 0-10. Phogat, who has traditionally competed in the 50-kilogram category, aims to expand her participation to both the 50 and 53-kilogram categories for the upcoming Olympics. Her primary objective this time is to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024, necessitating an exceptional performance in the trials.

Earlier, another one of the protesting wrestlers and Tokyo Games medallist Bajrang Punia had failed to grab a Paris Olympics spot after being defeated by wrestler Rohit Kumar by a huge margin of 9-1. With both wrestlers out of contention, many people are now taking to their social media accounts to vice their opinion about these wrestlers demanding direct qualification to the Olympics.

Qualification Chances

Despite losing to wrestler Anju with a score of 0-10, Vinesh Phogat's hope of competing in the Paris Olympics 2024 is still alive, but she will have to overcome the final hurdle. Whoever succeeds in winning this last face-off will represent India at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, if Vinesh Phogat fails to win the final bout, her dream of participating in the Paris Olympics 2024 will shatter. With her defeat against Anju, Vinesh Phogat's challenges have intensified. Vinesh Stalling Trials

In the wrestling trials held at the Sai Centre in Patiala, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat refused to start the trials for three hours. Phogat had requested assurance from officials that she would be allowed to compete in the 50 and 53 kg weight categories. Until she received written assurance, the wrestling trials did not commence. Vinesh Phogat feared that after the return of the Wrestling Federation of India's control, there might be changes in the selection committee, which could jeopardize her wrestling future. She wanted to secure her wrestling future. Vinesh Phogat desired to compete in the 53 kg weight category if she lost in the 50 kg category.
