Star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has secured a place in the semi-finals of the women’s 50kg freestyle event at the Paris Olympics 2024 by defeating Ukraine’s Oksana Livach. Phogat handed Livach a 7-5 defeat in the quarter-finals, bringing her one step closer to winning an Olympic medal.

Vinesh’s victory over Oksana Livach follows her earlier stunning performance where she defeated four-time world champion and reigning gold-medallist Yui Susaki of Japan. Despite trailing 0-2 after conceding penalty points for passivity, Vinesh made a brilliant comeback in the last five seconds, clinching three points to win 3-2, causing one of the biggest upsets in wrestling at these games.
