Phil Salt Relishes Added Responsibility in Maiden Captaincy Stint Against Australia
Jos Buttler was ruled out the T20I series due to an injury, and in his place, Phil Salt took up the mantle as as the skipper in the absence of Buttler. England lost the first T20I under Salt but bounced right back to win the second one played at Cardiff. The third and final game was abandoned with rain, and the series was level.
Phil Salt 'Enjoyed The Added Responsibility'
Speaking about his first spell as captain, Salt said that it was a pretty different experience but did admit that he enjoyed the responsibility. The 28-year-old Salt also made impactful contributions with the bat by scoring 59 runs in 2 games with a strike rate of 168.57.
"I've enjoyed it, it's different, it's the first time in an England shirt I've had to look at the game differently, but I've enjoyed the added responsibility,” Salt said after the match, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Salt was more than delighted to see how England bounced back in Cardiff following the one-sided 28-run loss in the first T20I. Liam Livingstone made a huge difference for his team with his valuable contribution as he scored 87 runs off 47 balls and also took two wickets as England pulled off a three-wicket win without with complete dominance.

“I'm very proud of this team. When you lose the first one you're always under pressure, and we came back harder. When we get on top we can really put our foot down. I think the Aussies found it hard to defend in Cardiff. We want to win a bilateral series, the more time we spend together as a group, the better we'll be as a team when those big tournaments come around,” Salt said.
England captain noted that the problem lay with Australia's defense, which was basically stifled owing to the absence of several senior pacers in the side. He said: 'The longer the side stays together, chances of success in big tournaments will increase".
