Ronaldo was left in tears after failing to convert the penalty, which would have given his team the lead in an intense match at the Frankfurt Arena on Tuesday. Ronaldo had a difficult game, missing several chances, including the penalty, and was comforted by his teammates afterward. Portugal received the penalty late in the first half of extra time when Diogo Jota's powerful run into the box was stopped illegally by defender Vanja Drkusic, who was fortunate not to receive a second yellow card.

Ronaldo's shot was expertly saved by Slovenia's Jan Oblak, who deflected the ball onto the post. Slovenia's solid defense largely neutralized Portugal's star-studded attack during 90 minutes of regular time and extra time. However, Portugal eventually triumphed when goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved all three of Slovenia's penalties in the shoot-out, securing a 3-0 win and a place in the quarter-finals.
After the match, Ronaldo spoke about the emotions he experienced after the penalty miss and his determination to bounce back in Portugal's upcoming Euro 2024 matches.
" I could have given the national team the advantage, but I didn't manage it, Oblak saved. I didn't miss once during the year, when I needed it most Oblak saved," Ronaldo said.
