Rahul Dravid Cuts T20 World Cup Bonus by Rs. 2.5 Crore, Advocates Equal Reward: Report

The 'gentleman' Rahul Dravid has once again demonstrated his admirable character by deciding to forgo half of the INR 5 crore prize money he was allocated from the Rs. 125 crore pool announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team. After Rohit Sharma's team defeated South Africa in the final to secure the title, the BCCI declared that a total of Rs. 125 crore would be distributed among the team, coaching staff, and support staff as a cash reward. Head coach Rahul Dravid was to receive INR 5 crore, while the other coaches were each set to receive Rs. 2.5 crore.

According to Hindustan Times, Dravid requested the board to cut his cash reward to Rs. 2.5 crore to maintain parity with the batting, bowling, and fielding coaches.

According to a BCCI source in the report, 'Rahul Dravid requested the same Rs. 2.5 crore bonus as his support staff—bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T. Dilip, and batting coach Vikram Rathore. We respect his decision.'

It's notable that Dravid took a similar stance as head coach of India's winning U-19 World Cup team in 2018. Back then, he was supposed to receive INR 50 lakh, while other support staff members were to get Rs. 20 lakh each, with players earning Rs. 30 lakh each. Dravid objected, prompting the BCCI to adjust the distribution to ensure equal rewards for everyone.

The board updated the cash awards, with each support staff member, including Dravid, receiving INR 25 lakh.

Dravid consistently earns praise for his selfless approach. From his playing days to coaching, he prioritizes the team's interests.
