India narrowly defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at Kensington Oval, Barbados, on Saturday, claiming an ICC title after 11 years. Following the historic victory, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20I cricket.

Earlier in the match, Virat Kohli steadied the Indian innings with a resilient performance, helping the team reach a total of 176 for 7 – the highest score by any team in a men's T20 World Cup final. India had been struggling at 34 for 3 in 4.3 overs, but a crucial 72-run partnership between Kohli and Axar Patel rescued the team. Axar scored 47 off 31 balls, while Kohli made 76 off 59 deliveries.
