'Senior Players Have Stepped..,' Babar Azam Speaks To AB de Villiers Ahead Of T20 World Cup 2024
Babar Azam 'Excited' For T20 World Cup
During the interview on AB de Villiers's YouTube channel, Babar highlighted the struggles he endured growing up and expressed gratitude for his parents' encouragement despite the difficulties. His first significant challenge after resuming the captaincy will be the T20 World Cup. Under his leadership, Pakistan reached the finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. However, his performance in the subsequent T20I series was less impressive, with Pakistan drawing 2-2 against a weakened New Zealand team and losing 0-2 to England.
Despite these setbacks, Babar noted that the team's confidence is high as they embark on their T20 World Cup campaign. Recently, Babar became only the second player after Virat Kohli to surpass 4000 T20I runs, amassing 4022 runs in 119 innings. He is just 15 runs shy of Kohli's record of 4037 runs in 117 innings, positioning him to potentially become the highest run-scorer in T20I cricket.
