The Spain cricket team has etched its name into history with a remarkable achievement. They have become the first men's team in T20I cricket to secure 14 consecutive wins, surpassing previous records held by India, Afghanistan, Malaysia, and Bermuda. Spain reached this milestone with a seven-wicket victory over Greece in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Europe Qualifier Group C match at Port Soif on Sunday. Their winning streak began in February of the previous year with a triumph over the Isle of Man.

Spain's New T20I Record

Spain now leads the record for most T20I wins in a row, Bermuda and Malaysia are next with 13 each. Among Test-playing nations, India and Afghanistan hold the record for 12 consecutive T20I wins.

In contrast, Thailand Women hold the overall record for consecutive T20I victories with an impressive 17.

Spain coach Corey Rutgers described the new record set by his team as ‘special’ and praised the players for their dedication and sacrifices in representing the country.

“A proud record to be notified about today, we obviously don’t play for records but this does feel special for the group,” Rutgers told Cricbuzz. “It has been a transformative few years in Spain, and a lot of credit goes to players who sacrifice a lot of their time to play for Espana, the management and my coaching staff. Couldn’t be prouder of all involved.”

In their match at the Guernsey Rovers Athletic Club Ground in Port Soif, Greece was restricted to 96/9 in 20 overs. Yasir Ali excelled with 3/12, while Charlie Rumistrzewicz and Mohammad Atif each picked up two wickets.

Spain successfully chased the target in 13 overs, losing three wickets in the process.

Thailand’s women’s team holds the record for the most consecutive T20I wins, having achieved 17 straight victories.

Spain’s streak began with an eight-wicket win over the Isle of Man in February 2023. Their run included four wins against the Isle of Man, followed by victories over Jersey, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, and Greece. Malaysia and Bermuda are now in second place with 13 consecutive wins each, while India, Afghanistan, and Romania share third place with 12 consecutive victories each.

In the ICC T20I standings. Spain sits at the 29th spot.
