UP T20 League 2024: From Orphaned Teen To India U-19 Captain, Mohd. Amaan Reflects On His Cricket Career

UP T20 League: Mohammad Amaan plays for Noida Super Kings

Mohammad Amaan was orphaned at 16 and took on the role of "head of the family," taking care of his three younger siblings. His mother, Sayba, died from the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, and two years later, his father, a truck driver named Mehtab, died after prolong illness.

He had a choice left either he could pursue cricket or give up the dream in search of odd jobs to survive.

But then, his hard work paid off. At 18, Amaan was named captain of India's Under-19 one-day cricket team, which is scheduled to play against Australia U-19 in Puducherry next month. Incidentally, the team also includes Samit Dravid, son of former India captain and World Cup-winning coach Rahul Dravid.

Mohammad Amaan's Cricketing Struggle

Mohammad Amaan was picked in the UP T20 League 2024 auction and currently plays for Noida Super Kings. In an interview between the match the young cricketer opened up about the struggles he had faced during his cricketing journey.

When asked about getting selected as India U-19 captain, he said:

"First of all, playing for India is a big thing in itself, I am feeling very good to be the captain."

Mohd. Amaan's journey has been quite tough but there were people who supported him throughout.

"There was a lot of struggle, the struggle is always there in the life of a cricketer, I was playing state cricket from Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). Then my mother died due to COVID, two years ago my father also died. There were a lot of difficulties"

"Our cricket association helped me lot, Akram bhaiya helped me financially, Rajeev Sir also helped me alot in this difficult period."

Amaan was picked as India U-19 captain, and he revealed his aspirations to win a title for his team.

"I played in India as a World Cup stand-by, but now I have got the opportunity again to play as the captain of our team. It's my dream to win the title for our team"
